KTM India has officially confirmed that the KTM 390 Adventure R will launch in January 2026, answering long-standing demand from off-road enthusiasts who have been waiting for a more trail-focused version of the popular ADV. Bookings are set to open within the next few days, with deliveries expected to commence from early January 2026, making this one of KTM’s most anticipated launches for the new year.
Positioned above the standard 390 Adventure S, the new Adventure R is designed as a hardcore off-road-oriented motorcycle while retaining KTM’s trademark long-distance touring capability. It targets riders looking for a lightweight adventure bike that can confidently handle challenging trails without sacrificing highway comfort.
Off-Road-Focused Hardware Upgrades
The most significant changes come in the suspension setup. The KTM 390 Adventure R features 230mm of wheel travel at both ends, a noticeable upgrade over the standard 390 Adventure, which offers 200mm at the front and 205mm at the rear. This additional travel is expected to translate into better absorption over rough terrain and improved control off-road. Wheel configuration further sets the R variant apart. It gets a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear spoke wheel setup, optimized for serious off-road use. By comparison, the Adventure S uses a 21-inch front and 17-inch rear tubeless spoke setup, making the R better suited for technical trails and loose surfaces.
Ground Clearance and Weight Advantage
Ground clearance has also been increased to 272mm, up from 237mm on the Adventure S, allowing riders to tackle obstacles with greater confidence. Adding to its off-road credentials, the Adventure R is 6kg lighter, with a kerb weight of 176kg, which should improve agility and handling on demanding terrain.
Engine and Mechanical Specifications
Mechanically, the 390 Adventure R remains unchanged from the standard model. It is powered by the same 398.6cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine, producing 45.3 bhp and 39 Nm of torque. This ensures familiar performance characteristics, proven reliability, and strong mid-range punch for both trail riding and touring duties.
Expected Pricing Strategy
KTM has yet to announce official pricing for the 390 Adventure R. However, the brand is likely to follow a strategy similar to its Enduro lineup. Internationally, the Enduro R launched at a premium of around Rs 20,000 over the standard Enduro, suggesting a comparable price difference between the Adventure S and Adventure R when it goes on sale.
With its enhanced suspension, increased ground clearance, lighter weight, and dedicated off-road hardware, the KTM 390 Adventure R is shaping up to be the most capable small-capacity adventure motorcycle KTM has offered yet, especially for riders who prioritize trail performance without giving up touring versatility.
